Navagio beach, Zakynthos, Greece

beach: white sand and gravel

When you are on Zakynthos, you must visit the famous Navaggio beach, where the main attraction is a stranded ship.It takes one hour to reach it, and the sight is spoiled by the multitude of boats that bring tourists. Lovers should not fail to “look at each other” when they pass between two rocks “that love each other”, because then they will stay together forever. Zakynthos is much more than the famous Navaggio beach, which with its white sand and turquoise sea adorns numerous postcards of Greece.

This beach is located near the village of Anafotiria. This bay used to be called Agios Georgios but got its new name after a ship that was shipwrecked here in 1983 during cigarette smuggling. Huge vertical cliffs of white rock surround this beautiful beach.

The boats depart from the small port of Porto Vromi, they go every half an hour and the journey takes about 30 minutes. The main problem is tourists and boats, which are too many in the season, and which spoil this unique landscape. You should also be prepared that there will be no shade on the beach, except near the shipwreck. Waves are a frequent occurrence on the beach.

The view from above is a story in itself. A small platform has been created from which you have an incredible and unusual view of the endless blue of Navagio Beach. The turquoise blue color of the sea is due to the white rocks and cliffs that surround this beach.
