Necromantheion Acheron

From the archaeological sites, we recommend going to the Necromanteion, which is an ancient sanctuary dedicated to Hades, the god of the underworld.
The remains of the Necromantheion are located on the north bank of the Acheron River, which was prophesied to be the entrance to Hell, and are located next to the site of Mesopotamos.

The Necromantheion was burned by the Romans in 167 BC. This sanctuary was built on top of a hill where the inhabitants could, according to tradition, communicate with the souls of their loved ones who had gone to the other world.
The Necromanteion is first mentioned in Homer’s Odyssey where this region is described when Odysseus was descending into Hades – the underworld.
