Milina

Milina is located in the south of the peninsula, about 49 km from the town of Volos and 7 km from the town of Lefkos. This is a small, picturesque fishing village, where you can have a nice rest, far from the hustle and bustle of the city. The place itself overlooks two small islands: Alatas and Prasoudas in Pagasitic Bay. The blue turquoise sea, clear water, beautiful bays and green olive groves attract an increasing number of tourists every year.
The name Milina comes from the Slavic word “mlin” – mill. Until 1948, Milina was part of the neighboring village of Glafko. The ruins of an old Christian church from the 5th-6th century were discovered in the area. The ruins of the ancient city of Olizon, mentioned in Homer’s writings, were unearthed near Mylina and are located outside the place on a hill. What is characteristic of Milina are picturesque bays, many of which are used for anchoring sailboats and boats as protection from strong winds.

If you have moved to Milina, you can also visit the neighboring islands of Alatas and Prasouda. You can rent a boat to reach the island. The name Alatas comes from the salt marsh across the road. Here is the monastery of Agia Saranta, which is worth a visit. On the island of Prasouda, you can visit the monastery of Zoodocho Pigi.
The beaches in the Milina area are mostly sandy. Some hidden coves can only be reached by boat. In this area there are many small uninhabited islands, caves, deserted sandy beaches. There are taverns and cafes along the city beach, where you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas along with the purchase of a drink.

Nightlife in Milina is rich. There is even a disco club here. The place is also full of cafes, bars, restaurants, fish taverns, and in the summer many festivals are held here where you have the opportunity to enjoy traditional Greek folklore and music. Excursions are organized from Milina to Trikeri, a traditional Greek village in the extreme south of Pylon.

The ice cream in Milina is especially good (at least we liked it), a small pastry shop in the center makes excellent ice cream according to the Italian recipe. Try it yourself, and let us know your impressions.
