Afissos

Afissos
Just 26 km south of the town of Volos is the picturesque resort of Afissos. Afissos is located on the western side of the Pelion peninsula, but geographically includes the southern slopes of Mount Pelion with a beautiful view of Pagastikos Bay. It used to be a small fishing village, and today Afissos has become a very visited and organized tourist center.
Afissos is in a great position for exploring and visiting southern Pelion. We recommend this place for all those who really want to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and it is ideal for a family vacation.

Afissos stretches on the hills where the beautiful, stone, white houses of Pelion are scattered. It was built in the form of an amphitheater, surrounded by lush greenery. In the center of the town there is a small port. This beautiful place is mentioned in Greek mythology – as the ancient city of Aphetes, where it is believed that Jason and the Argonaut with their ship landed right in the port of Afissosa, to supply themselves with water and continue their long journey to Colchis. In the central square there is a source – a fountain that will cool you down in the hot summer season.
In the town itself there are many taverns, restaurants, bars, cafes, markets, pharmacies and other facilities for a comfortable vacation. In the month of August, the place is flooded with guests, where there are mostly visitors from the city of Volos, who traditionally choose this place for their vacation. During the summer, various cultural events are organized in Afissos, the most famous of which is “Argonautika”, where many theater performances and concerts are organized.
