Aidipsos (Edipsos), Evia

Edipsos is a modern resort located in the northwest of the island of Evia. It is located exactly opposite Kamena Vurla on the mainland, and it is about 40 km south of Pefki. There is also a ferry port here, which is connected to the mainland. Edipsos is one of the most famous spa resorts in Greece, known for its thermal mineral springs, which flow directly into the sea, with a temperature of 34 degrees to even 70 degrees. Edipsos is very popular among older tourists, but younger women who have various gynecological problems also come. Here you will find the most luxurious SPA hotels with thermal pools, but also a lot of cheap apartment accommodation.

The sea on Evia is not so warm, which mostly applies to the east coast of Evia, but this is not the case with Edipsos, so due to the thermal springs, the sea is extremely warm and for every recommendation. These thermal springs spring from a depth of as much as 3000 meters and flow directly into the Aegean Sea.

The town beach in Edipsos is not exactly the most attractive beach in Greece. It is a predominantly sandy, in some parts, pebble beach. It is characterized by stone pools into which thermal waters flow, and in which the temperature of the water exceeds 80 degrees. Along the beach, thermal, warm waters flow in attractive waterfalls, and many visitors to the beach push themselves right under those healing, very warm jets of water.
It is good for aching backs, arthritis, rheumatism, dermatological problems, respiratory tracts… If you are persistent enough to wait for some nice grandmother to move away, you will have the pleasure of having a spa directly, for as long as you can stand it. Far from that, only older tourists swim here, on the contrary.

Because of the warm water, jellyfish are also common in these waters in August, so you should be careful. Edipsos is mentioned as a spa in Greek mythology – according to which the goddess Athena asked Hephes (the god of fire) to make her mineral springs in which Heracles could regain his strength when he fulfills her famous 12 tasks. So it was. The spa dates back to the Roman period, where it hosted Roman emperors – Hadrian, Marcus Aurelius, the philosopher Aristotle, and even the Serbian king Peter I Karđorđević, the famous Maria Callas, Greta Garbo, Onassis, Churchill… The remains of the temple of Daphniphoros Apollo, Palaestra are also located here with beautiful mosaics and an old theater.

The spa itself has a very developed tourist infrastructure. It can also be noticed that the former splendor and glamor has disappeared, so due to the recession, there are many abandoned hotels along the sea coast. At the exit from the town towards the north, there are many private accommodations, which directly go out to the beach. Here, you can bargain for a good night’s stay. On Evia, tourism is still not so developed, so the Greeks here have not yet mastered English well. This is not a big problem in terms of haggling with them and getting a good price for your stay. Signs in the Serbian language are starting to appear in taverns, which means that as tourists we have conquered this part of Greece.

Nightlife in Edipsos is very rich. There is a large selection of taverns, restaurants, fast foods, pastry shops, playrooms for children, casinos, etc. Folklore concerts organized by the city are often held here.

Spa Edipsos is a good position for visiting northern Evia. From here you can go to Kavos, another beautiful place on Evia, where you can hire a boat to a nearby small island called Lyhades. Along this stretch along the sea, we found a million shells, of various shapes. One of the attractions is Cape Gregolimano, which everyone says is reminiscent of the Golden War in Bol on Brač. There are excellent beaches and an even more beautiful sea here. The Greeks took advantage of this and built the exclusive Club Med resort for guests with deeper pockets, and fenced off most of the coast. Although the Club is only for hotel guests, no one will give you a problem to enter and look around.

From Edipsos you can also reach Elinika beach, in the northeast, near the town of Pefki, which has been declared one of the most beautiful beaches on Evia.
