Gerakini Beach, Sithonia
About 4km after Psakoudia is the last site of Sithonia’s west coast, Gerakini. This place was once known for its magnesite mines, which still exist 1.5km north. Today it is a modern tourist center which, with its wide range of accommodation and services, is an extremely interesting site. Gerakini Beach stretches all over the place, which takes almost 6km to the adjacent Kallives and Agios Mamas beaches. The beach is sandy with parts of well covered facilities of numerous hotels, tavernas and cafes.
There are a large number of accommodations around Gerakini Beach – from rooms and studios, to hotels with amenities and to slightly more demanding guests.
Gerakini is located at the very beginning of Sithonia. Holomontas Mountain, seen in the distance, is a great backdrop to the waters of the Gulf of Torone, or the Aegean Sea. Gerakini is surrounded by olive groves, an evergreen park and the sandy shore of Toroneos Bay.
This town is one of the oldest tourist destinations in Halkidiki. It is well developed tourist and you can find here some of the larger hotels in Halkidiki, but also smaller apartments and houses. Although it is a small place you do not have to worry about groceries as there are several markets.
The beach is another gem of Sithonia. It is sandy and very spacious. In the background of this beach you can see two big hills that seem to protect this divine beach with white sand and crystal clear water. In addition to its beauty, Gerakini Beach is also known for its vastness, it is 600m long and 100m wide. Gerakini beach is almost 6km long and it is almost certain that you will find a corner that is right for you. No noise, crowds and evening fun here. In addition to the newly opened lux hotel complex of the IKOS OLIVIA category, there are several other small, family-run hotels, tavernas and cafes, markets and bakeries in the resort.
There is a lot of beach amenities, from deck chairs and parasols, to tavernas, cafes and clubs where you can try some of the water sports. As with most destinations, the right thing to do is to come by car or rent a car rental agency.
Gerakini is an ideal place for families with small children, it has all the qualities of a family resort. For those who like a little more active vacation and still want to enjoy the charm of clean water and spacious beaches, this is an ideal position to visit all other places. Proximity to Thessaloniki is what attracts tourists the most, and you can look for various excursions to your local travel agencies.
Our recommendation is that families with children go to Gerakini beach, although it is exceptional for all categories of people except those who want a night out.
