Lafkos

Lafkos is a traditional mountain village located 45 km from the town of Volos and at an altitude of 330 m above sea level. It was built on a hillside with a beautiful view of Milina – a seaside resort, Alatas islet and the entire Pagasitic Bay.
Near Lafkos there are many hiking trails leading to Milina, Mikro beach and Hondri Ammos (thick sand). Through Lafkos passes an interesting path with lush vegetation, full of spring water, which ends at the beautiful beach of Agios Konstantions in the village of Paltsi.

The village has retained its traditional architecture with numerous old stone houses and villas. Near the main square in the village there is a cultural community, which is also a folklore museum, where you can see a large collection of old books, household equipment and tools, dishes, decorations, etc. In front of the old school is an exhibition of sculptures made of white Pelion marble, sculptor Tanasis Fambas. The large square is paved with stones, surrounded by numerous taverns, cafes where you can enjoy a delicious meal, Greek coffee, tsipour, sitting in the shade of old trees.
A few kilometers east of the village is the picturesque monastery of Agios Athanasios, which dates back to 1795. The monastery was built by Dimos Zapaniotis, a Greek builder, and the monastery was financed by the great hero of the Greek Revolution – Stergios Basdekis. The marble decorations are the work of the artist Milos. The monastery is located inside a gorge, with a rich fauna. If you want to visit it, you have to ask for the stream in the city municipality of Lafkos on the main road. In the monastery, the main religious holidays are held on May 1 and 2 with traditional music, dance and songs. The second main festival of the place is held in memory of Agia Paraskevi on the main tgu of Lafkos on July 25. Music and dancing go on all night with various festivities, great food and wine.

Lafkos is included in the KTEL bus system where there are daily departures to and from the city of Volos. The nearest medical center is located in Argalasti.
