Pelion Peninsula (Pelion) and Magnesia – information

Pelion or Pelion is a peninsula and a mountain in the southeastern part of Thessaly, in the very center of Greece, between Thessaloniki and Athens, about 800 km from Belgrade. It belongs to the region of Magnesia, which also includes the islands of Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos, which we discussed separately.

Here we have described the Pelion peninsula in detail, we tried our best to make the best possible guide, so our team visited all the beaches, towns and villages, photographed in detail and wrote everything you need to know to spend a wonderful vacation in this (for tourists from Serbia ) to a somewhat undiscovered part of Greece. We have to emphasize that Pelion is our favorite part of Greece.

Pylion is washed by the waves of the Aegean Sea from the east, and the Pagasitikos Bay from the west. Volos is the center of the Pelion peninsula and the province of Magnesia. This region is rich in history and mythology. Thus, the name Pelion comes from the mythical king Peleus, i.e. Peleus, from whose marriage with the nymph Thetis the legendary Greek hero Achilles was born. Pelion is also the land of the famous mythological creatures of centaurs.

On Pelion you will find numerous springs, gorges and streams, which is very valuable in Greece’s dry Mediterranean climate. It is a true oasis of rivers, waterfalls and springs of crystal clear water. Also, during the winter, this beautiful mountain and its snowy slopes offer great opportunities for skiing on perfect ski slopes.

For those who wish to fly, in the area of Anchialos, there is an airport that is only open during the summer season for all charter flights from Europe. Many people choose to go to the main international airports of Greece, in Athens, Thessaloniki and Skiathos, where from these airports, you can get anywhere on Pelion, either by car or by bus.
