Promiri

The village of Promiri is located 55 km south of the city of Volos on a hill that offers a beautiful view of the Aegean Sea. The position of the village is such that the place cannot be seen from the coast. It is almost invisible. In the 16th century, people lived by the sea at Theotokos Beach, and later in the coastal hamlet of Liri. Due to the constant attacks from the sea by pirates, they were forced to constantly move, so they chose today’s Promiri as a refuge from the invaders.

During the Turkish occupation, the village had a church property (Vakoufi) and a very developed production of olive oil, figs, grapes and silk. It played an important role in the Greek revolution in 1821 and is considered the center of the revolution on the peninsula. Nearby in the forest, there is the Agios Spiridon women’s monastery. The population still lives today from growing olives.

Promiri has cobbled, stone paths, where you will see many old houses and neoclassical villas with a leisurely walk. One of the most important buildings is the Kimisi Basilica, built in 1767, on the foundations of the old temple, and there is also the “Trani Brisi” fountain, built in 1786.
Several beautiful beaches are available for swimming. The nearest beach is Theotokos (Our Lady), where there is a chapel of Panagia Theotokos from 1807. In the immediate vicinity are the beaches of Platanias, Liri, Vromoneri and Mourtias.

The nearest larger town is Argalasti, where there is a health center. The village is included in the KTEL system of public bus transport on Pelion and is connected to the city of Volos.
