Vatopedi beach, Sithonia

Vatopedi beach, Sithonia

Vatopedi is a small village on the mainland between the two peninsulas of Sithonia and Kassandra.
A road that separates from the main road leads to the Vatopedi beach of the same name. You will find the beach from our pictures near the “Sithon” camp, where the road sign leads. When you turn off the highway, there is a road to the right that leads to the city beach, but we would not advise you to visit that beach – it is rocky, the access is bad, the beach is unorganized, the only good thing is that it is not crowded.

At this beach from the pictures (Bianco beach – Camp Sithon) you can park your vehicle, the beach is solidly landscaped, and further down there are several more beaches along the road, which are unkempt or landscaped if they belong to a hotel (Monopetro Luxury Apartments, Blue Dolphin hotel…) .

Several camps are next to each other, they are quite well arranged, and in the mentioned camp “Sithon” there is a shop and a very good restaurant. The beach has a shower and changing cabin, umbrellas and cafes on the beach.

The village of Vatopedi is located a few kilometers in the hill, above the beach. In the 13th century, there was a monastery here, which was destroyed by the Turks in the 19th century, and then rebuilt in 1904.

Nuns who arrived in 1974 from Meteora live on a small part of the former old monastery. A year later, some of the monastery’s buildings were restored, and they still exist today. A beautiful Catholic church from the 19th century has been preserved from the old monastery.
The distance from Thessaloniki is 87 km. Sometimes that road can take quite a long time, because in the season everyone goes by way of Sithonia and Kassandra. Near the beach is the slightly larger place Metamorfozis, where you can find a pharmacy, bakeries, restaurants, shops and has a very nice beach that can be reached by stairs. In the center there is also a large park for children, as well as a funfair with merry-go-rounds and similar activities.
